The inaugural [i3] Energy Transition Infrastructure Forum brought together institutional investors with responsibilities for infrastructure and sustainability, to discuss capital allocation strategies for this asset class.
As part of the forum, investors discussed how the energy transition theme, incorporating renewable energy, can be implemented as part of the infrastructure portfolio framework. Of key consideration was how investors could be funding the transition in the context of net zero commitment and decarbonisation pathways.
Beyond wind and solar, discussions also included other sectors or emerging technologies which may be attractive in the medium to long term. These included batteries, distributed energy, hydrogen, transmission assets etc.
The jury remained out on a more slightly contentious issue that was frequently raised: Is gas a transition fuel?
