Myths, Biases & Anomalies
The issues that equity investors face today are of a more granular nature than, for example, your traditional active versus passive debate. The rise of smart beta and factor-based strategies, the search for yield and the continuing divergence of economies all present opportunities and challenges.
The inaugural [i3] Equities Roundtable, therefore, has adopted the theme: “Myths, Biases and Anomalies” to reflect the desire to explore some of these lesser understood issues that face equity investors and challenge some long-ingrained investment ideas.
- Do investment strategies based on market capitalisation still have a place, or is it just lazy beta?
- Are smart beta strategies best run by experienced managers or are there benefits to internalising these processes?
- What effect will technology-based investment strategies have on investors and will they be usurped by the digital disruption taking place in many sectors in the world?
- And in an increasingly global world, is there still such a thing as a ‘domestic equity’?
All of these issues will impact not only the way institutional investors allocate their capital, but also the very fabric of these organisations as they will have to make the choice what to embrace and what to ignore.
